Course Immersive Design XR

Turtle (Blijdorp, 2018)

Since 2016, I have been teaching Immersive Design XR in the interdisciplinary minor 'Virtual/Augmented Reality Atelier'. This program has delivered 35+ virtual, augmented & mixed reality prototypes for a variety of +25 clients. The course 'Immersive Design XR' learns students how to design virtual, augmented & mixed reality experiences from a user-centered perspective. Students learn to interpret and apply specific Design Tools for designing 3D experiences and 3D user interfaces, coming from Emotional Design, UX-design and Interaction Design. They reflect on their work by evaluating their prototypes by means of quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods.

Vision

Our vision is formed on the premise that future designers will be Immersive Designers, who untie themselves from any device and will place the content in the world itself, eliminating the abstraction between the content and its users as much as possible. Students learn how to design for this abstraction and learn how to create multi-sensory experiences that fully captivate the user's potential to feel & sense, touch & taste, see & move, to listen & to speak, without losing grip on the user's needs for understanding and guidance throughout the experience.
