Besides the act of making motion, gestures can have a specific intent as well. These are called gesture intentions, of which different examples can be seen here: Float, Wring, Dab, Glide, Punch, Press, Flick, Slash. As you can see these intentions are quite refined and it needs some practice to extinguish them from one another. One way of applying these gesture intentions is by creating characters for avatars.
